More than 300 guests attended the Argus Foundation 2015 Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Hyatt Regency in Sarasota to honor the Rev. Don Roberts and, posthumously, T. Mabry Carlton Jr.

A dedicated community activist and advocate, Roberts led Goodwill Manasota as its president for almost 40 years, until his retirement in 2011.

Carlton, an eighth-generation Floridian, rancher and notable Sarasota County philanthropist, was a Sarasota County Commissioner from 1980 to 1989, when he passed away after a plane crash.

The 24,000-plus-acre T.

Mabry Carlton Jr. Reserve was named in his honor for his efforts in the county’s acquiring the land.

“These award nominees share the common values of a philanthropic spirit and dedication to the community with our membership and our founders,” said Joe Hembree, president of The Argus Foundation board of directors. “They have left a lasting legacy on our community and exemplify the philosophy of service to others in all they have done throughout their lives.”
